Electric Car Faster Than A Porsche
The Zap Alias is a really fast car!
For those of you who want an eco-friendly car for your conscience, but a superfast car for the cool factor, you no longer have to be conflicted.

Cars Deadlier Than Guns For Cops
Fast cars are fun, but sometimes deadly for law enforcement.
So should we ban cars? SUV’s? Maybe just ban “assault automobiles” since there is no legitimate need for souped-up engines, rear spoilers, wide tires, or any other characteristic of scary looking sports cars.

Junk Science
On politics, natural selection, mid-life crises, and fast sports cars.
Truth Eight: The mid-life crisis is a myth--sort of. The authors state that a man goes through a mid-life crisis only when his wife does, running out to buy a red sports car or whatever because he is trying to attract younger women to further his reproductive destiny.

Daltons Car Show
After the BMW show I headed back up to San Marcos, since I had the day off, to check out the monthly show at Dalton’s Roadhouse Grill. When I arrived the parking lot was already full, summer has officially started and I can not wait because this show gets better every month as summer progresses. A huge collection of hot rods, muscle cars, woodies, led sleds, and sports cars.

Is It A Bike? Is It A Car?
A look at vehicles that might be fast cars.
Carver One What is it? Car-meets-bike- meets-fighter jet Price 27,500, carver-worldwide.com Engine 659cc turbo, 68bhp Top speed 115mph Seats 2 They might both have three wheels, but the radical new Carver has more in common with the Eurofighter than Del Boy’s yellow Reliant Robin. Like a fighter jet it banks into turns, the rear section staying level but the body and front wheel leaning into the bend. And just like a jet, it’s expensive; the 27,500 youll need to buy one would also fetch you a very nice sports car from BMW or Audi, or several superbikes.

Baby You Can Drive My Car
Nice tasteNevertheless, I do like cars. I like old cars and fast cars. I love muscle cars. Big luxury cars don’t really catch my eye but show me a 68 Camaro, 69 Charger or a 72 Nova and I’m all over it. I keep hoping one of my sons shows an interest in auto body and car mechanics so I can get one of these classics and have someone to work on it for me.

A SaabNow back to my car design addicted fase, the Saab Aero X, is like dreaming of making a Jetsons (the cartoon) type car but for now, instead of the future, all the coolness minus the flying. But with the name Aero you never know, and Saab being born from jets its not exactly out of the question, or is it. No matter if it can fly or not the Saab Aero X is now on my top to get this for sports cars, its a car like this that will cause any person who can see to stop in their tracks, shit it may cause the blind to see.

Acer Ferrari 1004WTMi
Fast car drivers on a budget may be able to afford this FerrariSince we reviewed the Ferrari 4000 last year, Acer has released a fleet of Ferrari-themed laptops in all sizes. The ultraportable of the bunch, the Ferrari 1000, has a compact chassis worthy of the sports car maker’s logo, and its speedy performance on our benchmarks would likewise make the Italian engineers proud. Unfortunately, its battery life came up short of what we’d expect from a machine that’s designed for maximum mobility. If you’re looking for a wide-screen ultraportable with stamina, check out the Fujitsu LifeBook Q2010 or the Dell Latitude D420. But if battery life can take a backseat to performance, the Acer Ferrari 1000 is a stylish speed racer.

Typhoon
Typhoon is a fast car with ponies from independent maker TVR.
According to company representatives it will be named Typhoon and will be equipped with all-aluminum engine by the name “Speed Six” already widely featured in other TVR creations like Tuscan, Cerbera, Tamora and Sagaris. To be original this time they have decided to stick a big supercharger to it and raise the power output from 350-400hp found in the previously mentioned model to a more inspiring herd of 600 ponies.

Sports Cars In Vermont
A little fast car in Vermont wrecks a marriage ... temporarily.
For her part, Marianne Donahue spent this morning fighting vicious rumors that she had become visibly anorexic since the Herald piece catapulted her into the limelight. And when it rains it pours: she and her husband Andrew began to feud over her lavish new tastes in sports cars and fitness trainers, and they separated, divorced, remarried, and are now — at a little before lunch time — again deliriously happy.

Fun to look at and I’m sure they’re even more fun to drive except for the fact that I would probably choke on the steering wheel. Fighting Traffic Tickets
Speeding tickets are the anathema of fast car drivers.
I’m not going to beat around the bush here: I like sports cars and I like pushing them to the limit! As you might expect, I’ve had more than my share of run-ins with the police. But even though I’ve been pulled over for speeding more times than I care to admit, I can’t seem to let up on the gas pedal. After all, it’s no fun having 300 horses under the hood if I’m not going to use them! So I decided that it might be a wise investment to learn how to fight traffic tickets.

What A Concept!
Alex Nunez sends another great report from the New York Auto show, this time with snaps (and a video!) of the new Chevrolet Camaro fast car.
Even though it's only a concept vehicle (for now), Camaro makes all the right noises. The idle was a guttural rumble that made me want to hear what it sounded like under real acceleration. One guy next to me wondered aloud how much money it'd take to have the driver "light 'em up."

If you've ever wanted to take your own fast car for spin, check out the Sportsman drag events.
It’s 1,320 feet long, straight, with 2 tracks. Just your car, side-by-side with another one, ripping down the drag strip. A brief shot at glory before returning to your day job. That’s what makes the Sportsman (non-professional) drag events so much fun; regular people on the world-class proving grounds of Gainesville Raceway, trying to see what their car can do. During the Gatornationals, a pair of them is launched down the strip about every 40 seconds, all day long.Click through for the whole story.

Ex-con Erikssen's Enzo
The L.A. Times has been following this strange tale of former Gizmondo exec Stefan Erikssen and his severed Enzo fast car.
If you be a-wondering whatever happened to that California Swedish ex-convict, Stefan Erikssen, the last I read is that he was cruising around Mexico on the missing yacht and that no one, including the police, was particularly concerned with his whereabouts, saying that his normal habitat ranges from Sweden to the UK to California, according to Pepperdine University’s “Graphic”. Erikssen is the fabulously rich playboy whose red Enzo sports car spectacularly split in two on the Coastal Highway near Malibu. The driver and suspected Ferrari Enzo murderer, mysteriously ran off into the Malibu hills, leaving Erikssen, the owner of the car who just so happened to be a “passenger”, virtually uninjured.

What a great idea for lovers of classic fast cars: a time-share.
Yeah well timeshares have grown up since then, in fact one of the more interesting one's these days is with Classic Cars. Club Sportiva out of San Francisco (with a satellite office in San Jose) advertises itself as the nation's largest and most established sports car share company. They also have a line of classic and exotic cars as well including a hot 1962 Corvette Convertible or a 1969 Jaguar E-Type Roadster. You Kiss Your Mother With That Mouth?
This sounds like a pretty stupid fast car stunt, even for Fear FactorThe first team did the last stunt and they did really well. The moms had to drive a little sports car (sons were in the passenger seat) under a semi and get their car locked in under the semi. Then they both climb out of the car and up into the semi, grab a set of flags each, climb out of the semi and hang all of their flags along the side of the semi. Still with me? It looked like quite a crazy stunt and having been in several accidents I don't think you could have gotten me to do it so it's a good thing I wasn't participating. But the first team did it no problem so it looked a lot easier than I had expected. They did the whole stunt in 2minutes 20seconds.

Vanquished
Why the Aston Martin fast cars are a cut above:
It's the noise they make, too. They sound like there's two rhinos under the bonnet having their bollocks mashed up by a mallet. None of this high-pitched 'Waa-Waa' crap you get with sports cars, but a deep, rumbling noise that just makes your guts shake. You can tell there's one coming because all the buildings around you fall down like a Japanese suburb. Oh, man, they're just fucking beautiful.

We Have Become A Nation Of Pussies
We've also become a nation of fast cars that are hard to fix at home.
And it doesn't take much to see when all the things I love are being threatened: for instance, when Tim Allen's excellent comedy routine on being a man was reduced to a that stupid sitcom Home Improvement. The show should have been called Man Improvement, because that's what every single plotline entailed: turning a man into a "better" person, instead of just leaving him alone to work on restoring the vintage sports car in his garage. I stopped watching the show after about four episodes.

Aston Martin Offer Hands Free Bluetooth
For all you Aston Martin fast car drivers, you may now keep your hands on the wheel.
Motorola announced today that its IHF1000 Bluetooth car kit is currently available in Aston Martin’s, Vanquish S and DB9 sports cars. Motorola’s leading in-vehicle technology, provides Aston Martin owners with a seamless communications experience that keeps them connected to their office, home, friends and family through innovative Bluetooth technology. The Motorola IHF1000 mutes the vehicle’s stereo system on receipt of an incoming call or the start of an outgoing call, so drivers can conduct hands-free and wire-free mobile phone calls. Unlike standard speaker-dependent voice recognition systems that rely on exact pronunciation of a recorded name, the IHF1000 accurately recognises voice commands, regardless of accent or articulation. A highly advanced noise reduction system ensures background noise has no affect on voice commands. This allows the driver to connect seamlessly the first time, while on the move in some of the world’s most desirable sports cars. Incoming calls, SMS messages and battery monitoring are also announced to the driver through the car’s sound system and speakers.

Buying A Car In Finland
I like this fast car, too.
Click through to find out how nice it is to buy a car in Finland.Unlike most men, I don’t care about automobiles, I don’t drool over car magazines or fancy sports cars I pass on the road - I just need something small and reliable, with a nice sound system. When I win the lotto however, here’s what I’ll buy…

Use As Intended
Put that fast car in gear!
Old men who fork out the cash for fancy ass "fast" cars and drive them like their a corolla. What the fuck? Your old and close to dying anyways. Live a little. Use the car as it was intended for. When my pansy ass Toyota mini van is sailing past you at Mach 3, and you and your fancy ass little black convertible Mercedes (I only know this cause I recognized the symbol) is puttering along a highway that is clearly marked for the Speed 80 NOT 60, you need to rethink your vehicle purchase.

Fast cars everywhere.
Porsche company is reportedly setting up showrooms in Pakistan after anticipating a market here. It is ironic that in a country where people are struggling to make ends meet, the elite is keen on buying the most expensive sports cars.

Lotus Sport Exige 240R
Automobile Blog is running a lot of informative reviews of fast cars like the Lotus 240R.
Let’s face it: while the Exige is a sports car enthusiasts’ dream, it is not above criticism. For example, the 1.8-litre Toyota engine has to be worked very hard to enjoy the best of its performance. And despite those track car looks, the Lotus’ chassis lacks the adjustability which circuit drivers crave.

Get a fast car or get a practical car?
It’s about time I get a more practical car: non-neon colored, no body kit, no exhaust where you can hear the car idling alone from three blocks away… So many choices: luxury sports car, or pure sports car. Coupe or convertible. Rear wheel drive or all wheel drive. Fast and cheap, or fast and more than downpayment on a home in the Bay. Black/silver or red/yellow/big flashing lights that say “pull me over.”

Renault Ends Clio V6
Too bad, the Renault Clio looks like a fun little fast car!
In the space occupied by the regular Clio’s back seats sits a 3.0-litre V6 developing 255bhp. It’s enough for a top speed of 153mph and 0-60mph in 5.8sec - figures more usually associated with serious sports cars such as the Porsche Boxster. Renault has said only 20 Clio V6 models remain unsold at UK dealers, costing £27,100 each.

Dark Knight Rising
Yeah, who wants a fast car when you can have a Batmobile?
For starters, it had a story. I know that sounds like a revolutionary concept for a movie, especially in the middle of the summer blow-up-everything-and-make-it-loud mega-super-blockbuster event time that we find ourselves, but this film actually has a compelling story about a man learning the difference between vengeance and justice. It also resolved one of my first questions about Batman’s mythos: How the heck can Bruce Wayne have all of this high tech equipment show up at his place and have no one at his company ever question it? The suit is quite cool (no nipples) and the car was perfect; seriously, how can you knock over concrete barricades if you’re driving a sports car?

Simple Philosophy
I like simple philosophy, especially for fast cars.
i’ve got a simple philosophy on cars. drive a humble little japanese one til you can afford to upgrade to either a) a nice continental saloon, like a 5 series or b) wait a little longer til you can afford a decent sports car. or if you want a bigger car, how bout a sports saloon? say.. the BM 645 or the CLS 500.

Audi TT Versus C6 Corvette
The fast car story of the Audi versus the Corvette.
Third, I don't race people (he of course has no way of knowing that). I find that when I'm driving the 'vette, I feel that generally I have very little to prove. Technically, the car is one of the fastest on the street, and even if you put two roughly equal sports cars against each other, it comes down to whoever gets the better start. If my car can do 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, and yours can do it in 4.5 (or whatever), either one of us could win - not that I'd race you, y'all remember back to the future, right? :)

1953 Muntz Jet
A little history of the Muntz Jet.
Muntz found it across town in the person of Frank Kurtis, builder of the stylish two-seat Kurtis Sport as a sideline to his primary business of constructing Indianapolis race cars. (Kurtis roadsters finished 1-3-4-5-6-8-9 at Indy in 1954!) But it turned out building cars for the public wasn’t Kurtis’ cup of tea, so he sold the Sport’s rights and tooling to Muntz in 1949. Muntz renamed the car the Muntz Jet.

Malaysia To Get Sports Cars
A new agreement between Japan and Malaysia promises to bring more sports cars to Malaysia. Click through for an analysis.
Now before everyone shouts “Hooray, now that Honda Jazz I’ve been eyeing will be affordable to me now!”, there’s some conditions involved. Whatever benefits that the JMEPA brings would only affect vehicles that do not compete with Proton and Perodua. What does this mean? What are the types of cars that Perodua and Proton does not make? Probably only SUVs, high performance sports sedans and luxury vehicles, at least for the time being.

Defining Differences
Great post on the difference between father and son as defined by their cars:
I go on adventures as well, but I go them alone. And I would never go on them in green station wagons, or beige station wagons, or big maroon Cadillacs. He drove a blue Mazda minivan before his latest car, Toyota’s largest sedan, in gray. The first car I bought was a yellow Toyota two door convertible sports car. Toyota doesn’t even make sports cars any more. My current car is a red Mazda two door convertible sports car. I think my father’s green station wagon was nearly twice the size.

Ardenwood Celtic Festival
Who would have guessed a Celtic Festival had such a great fast car exhibit?
For the second year in a row, the MG Owners’ Club was invited to show its members cars at the Ardenwood Celtic Festival in my hometown of Fremont. Several members of the Sorry Safari Touring Club also participated, and there was a good diversity of sports cars displayed. There were a dozen cars which included an MG PA, 2 MG TDs, an MGA, 4 MGB roadsters, a B/GT, an MG Midget, a Jaguar E-Type and a Morgan Plus 4 (I think).

Inclement Sports Cars
Our winters can be temperamental, you really never know what to expect, so I find it really interesting that people buy sports cars and when the roads are slippery and sloppy they take these little cars out on the road and they wonder why (I don’t) their little cars end up in ditches and/or are involved in accidents. At least we know that auto body shops will never be out of work.

Maxim Magazine
This blogger likes the car reviews in MaximBut beyond the pretty girls, I like Maxim because I get a lot of pop culture from it. They review the latest CD's (all genre's), the latest movies (the new "Batman" should rock), talk about new sports cars, sports, etc. A couple of months ago they interviewed a journalist who had been kidnapped and held hostage in Iraq. That was a fascinating story. But Maxim does all this in the language and style that I use with my friends. They just tell it how it is.

This is city is a visual feast. Plasma-screen billboards, jacaranda trees in full lavender bloom, high-end sports cars, birds 'o paradise, ocean waves crashing against the glass of your restaurant window, dusty mustard-flowered mountains, bums with towering, pungent shopping carts, outdoor farmers markets with piles of produce in perfect rainbow symmetry, museum flags flapping on light poles with David's Bonaparte rearing up on a battle steed against the smoggy sky, film crews, drag queens, Dan Ackroyd at the corner vegan bakery, a basin of lights,...

Fuel Efficient and Reasonably Priced... Anyone?
Saw this, which reminds me that there is nothing new under the sun... The question is, who is going to be the new Japan, taking over with cars that can live in a world of expensive fuel?
The truly maddening thing is that we have been here before. The oil crisis of the 1970s had exactly the same effect. US auto makers made and pushed low mileage gas hogs. Toyota and Datsun (now Nissan) stepped in an cleaned up with smaller, higher mileage (reasonably priced) quality vehicles. The headlines were full of the "death of the US auto industry." Well here we are again, and high gas prices do moderate status pitches of big trucks, big, vans, big SUV's, big luxury cars, and gas eating sports cars. Perhaps there is some hope for the sensibility...

All About Panoz
Lots of good fast car info on the Panoz company and some hot cars like the Esperante.
A little FYI: American Le Mans racing, a form of endurance racing licensed by from Europe by Panoz Motor Sports, has four major classes. P1, P2, GT1, and GT2. P1 and P2 don’t look like any car you’ve ever seen on the street. Audi has the most successful cars in this class (the R8). GT1 is dominated by Corvettes and Vipers. GT2 class is usually dominated by Porsche, but the Panoz Esperante just dominated all the Porsches (as I previously mentioned). In American Le Mans, the winner is the car who completes the most laps in a long race (4-12 hours). The real Le Mans is a 24-hour race, but you should already know that.

Do you have to drive a Lotus to be L.O.S.T. in Texas?
Nick has kept the Viper here for the past month and a half while his new place gets the street repaired. I have been having an enjoyable time with it, of course, driving it pretty much as often as I can. With that in mind, this past Saturday I had a great day of "Cars". I started off with an early morning meeting with an online group of Lotus owners that I have known for a few years (Lotus Owners of South Texas - L.O.S.T.) at Star Motor Cars. Star is the local Lotus dealership....

Tramontana
This is one wild fast car. For $600k, it should be this beautiful.
The Tramontana design recovers long-forgotten classical models. The other main source of inspiration is fighter planes, for example lateral intake vents and, especially, the tandem-like position of the two seats, that allows the perfection of the equilibrium. Lovers of sports cars will appreciate the perfect weight symmetry offered by the position of the seats.

This fast car enthusiast prefers the Corvette.
Many people have different hobbies that keep them occupied during their spare time. As a “typical” American male I love sports cars. Fast, sleek, loud cars drive me crazy. I have always been a fan of Chevrolet Corvettes. An all American sports car since it's creation. I have had the opportunity to drive many corvettes since a young child. My father has always been a big fan of corvettes since I was a young child.

"I Like Driving Again"
This fast car driver likes the Mini.
Read the whole thing.for the longest time, I hated driving. In fact, I think the only time I liked to drive was when I was in Germany. It was a very odd sensation to want to drive places, but driving on the Autobahn and even in crazy European traffic was nice. I really looked forward to driving places and the driving experience was something very unique. I came back to the States and, again, I hated driving. Then I got the Mini...
Ever since I got this car, I've enjoyed driving again, even in the ridiculous DC traffic. I think the Germans really have something in their car-making philosophy. Driving the Mini is fun and an experience in itself. They really do take consideration of the entire driving experience when engineering their cars. At least that's what I am thinking. For those of you who don't know, the Mini is now built by BMW.

I like seeing the different cars over here, particularly the tiny tiny cars. Also, I've always been struck by the different offerings by Ford. Ford's Street Ka is eye-candy to anyone who enjoys sports cars. It's a small knockoff of Audi's TT convertible. I saw one parked across the street from this showroom, but it's top wasn't down.

2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata Has Competition Seeing 'Red'
This new special edition Miata "3rd Generation Limited" is a great fast car built on a durable heritage.
Jinba Ittai, a Japanese phrase that translates to "the rider and horse as one," has been the focus of the MX-5 Miata concept since its inception, and is the purest essence of Mazda's Zoom-Zoom spirit. Oneness is the cornerstone of the Jinba Ittai driving experience and occurs when the boundaries between driver and vehicle melt away and create one single being. Essentially, Jinba Ittai is a celebration of the simple delights of driving a lightweight, nimble, open-air roadster, and anyone who has driven a Miata knows the feeling.

Fastest Sports Car
The 1994 Dauer 962, a modified Porsche, accelerates from 0-60 MPH in 2.6 seconds, making it the fastest accelerating sports car.
Since the 1994 victory, much has changed at Dauer as attention focused from street legal racecar to civilized roadcar. To create each one of these cars, Dauer takes an original Porsche-made 956/962 and strips the car. A completely new carbon fiber/kevlar body is then made along with a very tight leather interior . When finished, the owner receives a car which has a race history at the top level of motorsport and is also ready to drive on local streets.
A major development has been the introduction of several electro-hydraulic systems into the car. While equipped with pneumatic doors and rear engine cover, one of the most important changes is a hydraulic suspension to raise and lower the car. This was manditory as the 962, in standard trim, is far too low to meet the ride height necessitated by German law.

New Nissan Sport Concept
This new fast car concept from Nissan.
“The Nissan Sport Concept, like the AZEAL and Actic before it, is first and foremost a showcase of future thinking, yet it is also a car that would be right at home in Nissan showrooms in the not-too-distant future,” said Collins. “Nissan has a strong global lineup of compact enthusiast vehicles, including the March, Cube, Tiida, Note and Sentra SE-R, and, in the Nissan 350Z, one of the world’s most desirable sports cars. The new Nissan Sport Concept fuses the best of both worlds.”

Porsche Panamera
Autoweek, to which you really must subscribe if you are interested in cars, highlights yet another new Porsche, the Panamera. It looks like a 928 crossed with a Mercedes CLS, but doesn't have anything in common with an old prototype of similar name, the 1989 Panamericana, or much to do with the cross-country races of the 1950s. It will be Porsche's first modern four-door car (the Cayenne is a truck).

Jaguar XK, the Underappreicated Sports Coupe
This blogger likes the Jaguar XK fast car.
The XK is one of the most underappreciated high-end sports coupes on the market, and I'm not really sure why. Jaguar build and ride quality has always been of the highest caliber (save for the Ford merger, but that's another story) but the XK just doesn't get the play of cars like the Mercedes SL and the M3. Through some linking on other sides, I stumbled upon what appears to be an authentic picture of the 2006 Jag XK model, and I have to say that it's the nicest looking coupe I've seen in a very long time.

Deadliest Sports Cars
However, the study noted some exceptions. It found that heavier sports cars generally had a higher rate of death than lighter ones.

Singapore Auto Show 2004
Here's a snippet of a review of the Singapore Auto Show held about 4 months ago. This part of the review is about fast cars like the Maserati.
The Lamborghini booth showing three cars only, One of it is the Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT sport car. Lamborghini is attemp to enter ths Singapre market. The neighbour of Lamborghini in the booth is the Ferrari and Maserati booth. The Maserati car model really kick ass i like the logo of Maserati (a crown shape logo) at most. Really look classy. Another famous car maker, Porche also have booth in the event, like usually i can see Porche Carrera GT, boxster and roadster. A new car, 2004 Porsche Cayenne V-6 is showing there too, it is a more affortable SUV by Porche (compare to thier other model... it still not cheap but make it look cool). This SUV really nice espeacially in Black color. Rolls-Royce showing the Phantom series in the show, those car are great as they have the identical look of typical Rolls-Royce and a stuning design to make it look modern and futuristic, cool. The series is not in thier sales, so you just look and can not own them...

Flying Panoz
Fast cars in the air? Well, you can watch in on the Discovery Channel.
Production began this week for perhaps one of the most difficult and unique builds ever on the hit Discovery Channel television show Monster Garage. West Coast Choppers owner Jesse James and his team of Maverick Mechanics are attempting to create a flying car out of a Panoz Esperante provided by Panoz Auto Development within a span of five days. Unlike most Monster Garage episodes consisting of five person teams that air for one hour, the flying car project has a team of ten members and will air as a special two-part season finale on June 13 and June 20 on the Discovery Channel.

Porsche History Lesson
Porsche makes some of the finest fast cars in the world. Here's a footnote to the Volkswagen Beetle, widely attributed to Mr. Porsche.
Writer Paul Schilperoord, in the Dutch magazine The Engineer, is claiming that Dr. Ferdinand Porsche's contribution to the development of the Volkswagen is greatly exaggerated, or so states this thread at AutoWeek's message board.
As early as 1928, Josef Ganz was showing off a fixed-chassis prototype with rear-wheel drive and a rear-mounted engine, which by 1931 he was calling Maik»fer — "May beetle". Adolf Hitler caught a glimpse of Ganz' bug a couple of years later, decided that some sort of "people's car" would be worth doing, and assigned the development to Dr. Porsche, who then basically swiped the Ganz designs. Ganz, a Jew, had fled to Switzerland and presumably was in no position to complain.

New Sports Cars on the Market
Cars.com has a nice summary of the new sports cars hitting the market. Lots of great new fast cars!
All told, nearly a dozen new or seriously redesigned sports cars will be on the market by fall 2004. Aston Martin has a new DB9 coupe and Volante convertible that replace the long-lived DB7 series. BMW has already launched its V-8-powered 6 Series coupe and convertible as 2004 models. Ferrari unveiled its new 612 Scaglietti coupe at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.
Chevrolet has a redesigned Corvette coming soon; it’s fitted with a new 6.0-liter V-8 engine rated at 400 horsepower. Ford has reworked its Mustang, which will be initially offered as a coupe, but a convertible is sure to follow later. In addition, the eagerly awaited limited-production Ford GT supercar will be on sale as a 2005 model.
Lotus is abandoning the low-slung Esprit coupe after a long run. At the same time, the Elise roadster — on sale for some time in Europe — will at long last reach the U.S. market.
2005 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Highlights of Mercedes-Benz’s SLR McLaren include a 617-hp supercharged V-8 and an adjustable rear spoiler. Porsche’s new Carrera GT supercar went on sale as a 2004 model and is priced above $400,000. Mercedes-Benz joins the supercar ranks with its 2005 SLR McLaren coupe, which is powered by a supercharged V-8 engine. A redesigned Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class hardtop roadster will debut as a 2005 model. Meanwhile, the stylish Bentley Continental GT coupe is finally reaching American dealerships.

Corvette Story
The Corvette is almost 52 now, but this is a sweet story about a sweet car.
On Monday the Corvette turns 50 years old:
Tom Meadows isn't kidding when he says his two children, both in their 30s, are too young to inherit his all-original 1966 Corvette.
"It's in my will that if something happens to me before they come of age - which I believe is at least 40 - she goes to the National Corvette Museum until they're old enough to treat her right," said Meadows of Salisbury, Md., on Thursday as he stood beside the pristine convertible with only 8,800 miles on it.
The couple are among thousands of Corvette enthusiasts streaming into Nashville and Bowling Green, Ky., this weekend to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the sleek sports car that first rolled off the Chevrolet assembly line on June 30, 1953, in Flint, Mich.
Time to celebrate -- at least take your mom out for some apple pie. But if you have a Corvette you still might be able to join a caravan of Corvettes heading on out there.

Expensive Fast Cars
Does it even matter what grade of fuel it uses?
Revolutions in the auto industry are few and far between, so this year we are not surprised to report that the most expensive automobiles are, again, sports cars. A couple of premium sedans appear here and there in the slide show that follows--a slide show that features our annual list of the ten most expensive cars available in the United States.
The average price of a vehicle on the list has gone up to $351,000 from $341,000, an increase of 3%. Automakers increase the prices of blueblood automobiles to hedge against inflation, to compensate for disappointing sales or because they have added new features to the cars.

Fastest Convertible
If it's really this fast a car, you might not have any hair left after your ride.
It is called Superamerica and has a top speed of 320 km/h and it is a Ferrari. The car is derived from 575M Maranello. It is designed by Pininfarina.

Fastest Electric Car
This is a couple years old, but I haven't found any faster cars of the electric persuasion. This is a fast car for any kind of car.
In this review, Forbes.com looks at the fastest electric vehicle in the world, the tzero roadster built by AC Propulsion Inc.
The tzero does 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, according to the company, and it does it on only 200 horsepower because of its light weight and torque.
The San Dimas, Calif.-based company says the tzero (pronounced "tee-zero," not "chair-o") has compared favorably in acceleration tests to Corvettes, Porsche 911s--and even a Ferrari F355, which it claims to have "out-accelerated...by eight car lengths" in one-eighth-mile drag races.
